testing blog updating via Digital Path's DPWeb Demo of the Palm VII.
I'm a complete and total nerd, but I need a way to fax resumes, email resumes, keep in touch with friends and yes, have my one luxury of updating this journal, when I get to New York. I can't afford a laptop and won't have phone service for a few weeks, so I'm sampling options.
If this works, it will be far and away the best option. By the time I back up and ship my computer and software and buy a monitor (I've been using my mother's), I could buy a Palm VIIx for less.
I've wanted a Palm VII since I had to send one to Britney Spears. She wanted one, so we got one free from Palm (don't get me started on how the richest people get the most free stuff). They were brand new then and the idea of wireless Internet and email was just so beyond my budget. Now they've slashed the Palm VII from $449 (I almost bought one to do travel updates for my trip last spring) to $199 with a $100 rebate after 3 months of service.
The PalmNet service isn't that much more expensive than AOL, which I'm giving up. I've also found free hosting for my sites, which will save me a lot of money each month.
I'm all for giving up luxuries and making sacrifices to facilitate this move back to New York. I've donated 4 boxes of clothes and am tossing out a ton of other clothes and posessions. The one thing I've been fretting over is how I'll keep in touch if I don't have phone or web access. The one thing I'll miss isn't TV, but updating my journal. I've been missing it already because I'm so busy doing things around the house for my mother, packing and getting things ready for the move. That's a shame, because it's right here. In just two weeks (I've had to delay the move again until May 28 or so), I won't have the luxury of updating this page until I have a few months of income.
I read this page via this Palm VII demo and it works just fine with the images turned off. Who knew I was Palm-friendly? I know it's frivolous, but I don't think I can make it mentally/intellectually for very long without the writing and the feedback. I'm addicted to seeing my words out there and to receiving kind emails. Viva Blogger Wireless!
